Hello all,
This last post is very special to me. Today as I was watching the walking dead with relatives, there was a quote one of the characters, Glenn, had said, "If we want to get through all of this, we have to get through it together." This is not a direct and verbatim quote but it's something that stuck with me. The group this far in the season is continuing on their journey, but lacking vital resources to their lives, food and water. While noticing others were struggling with their remaining strength, they manage to pull together and work around situations while being smart to conserve their energy.
With Glen's words in mind, they remind me that I'm not alone out her in my first year of college. I've made many friends and acquaintances, family members and loved ones that push me every single day to help bring the best out in me. There are days where I feel lonely in my dorm room, and days where I feel like everything around me is going by so fast. But its the moments where I have friends and family that help me get through each day one day at a time. Without their encouragement, I myself would not have the courage to move forward with my life. With everything going on, I take a step back and breathe, taking the time to relax myself and be there for myself, knowing that I don't have to go through everything alone.
The walking dead may just be a television show, but it does show very relatable situations regarding family, and knowing how to protect what you have left from the dangers of the world. And I think that those moments within the show are very important to take out and apply with my life.
Thanks :)

Nuclear Waste
Hello all,
Nuclear waste, by Richard Miller
Muller's essay shows his fears of storing nuclear waste in the Yucca Mountains and the possibility of radioactive particles contaminating the water supply. Muller explains his viewpoints on how the waste should be disposed of and supports his own claim by using data and explanations of radioactive decay. He uses a professional and informative tone throughout the essay while using langue and examples that are easy to understand and follow. Muller persuade his audience that radioactive waste can be contained safely and effectively while posing no threat to the population or environment. This essay is meant to analyze his arguments in order to examine his rhetorical strategies.
I find that the structure of his essay is very well written out and has a fluid feel to his vocabulary and grammar. He uses plenty of examples and data to help support his claim, and brings in counter arguments that emphasize his side of the situation even more. I found this very enjoyable to read and will use some of his writing ideas within my own paper.
Thanks! Brandy B.

Corruption Case Hits San Ramon Police Department
Hello all!
http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Cop-Corruption-Case-Spills-Into-San-Ramon-PD-121288054.html
Within this article, it states that a local officer within the city of San Ramon is facing charges of alleged drug dealing and conspiracy acts. There is a video within the article of a local news women reporting said crime.
This makes me worried to know that the police force within my own hometown could possibly be corrupt. It makes me scared to trust my local police force and worried for those around me. But it also gives me hope due to the fact that he was able to be landed within custody and is receiving proper punishment for his crimes. I'm not sure as to whether or not I feel fully comfortable with the police force back home now, but all I can hope is that everything works out for the best.
Thanks for tuning in!

Does Social Media Increase Bullying?
Hello all!
So does social media increase bullying?
http://blogs.brandeis.edu/samgajewski/2011/11/09/social-media-cyber-bullying-and-teen-suicide/
According to this article I've found, there are many statistical reasons as to how effective social media and bullying really is. There are many examples given within the article, and although it is old, it is still going on today. It shows us that cyber bullying within social media is on the rise and is a high risk for many teenagers around the world.
In regards to this article and topic, I find it to be very interesting to read about how extensive bullying can get. It can go from a small joke you can laugh at, or as far as ruining a reputation or suicide. I find that with extensive research, there is so much that has developed over the years and can help be a worth while topic to further study. These actions that many people take only because they think their self esteem will be boosted, will only lower the emotions of others. Be aware of your surroundings online, and stand up to those who are in need of help. I enjoy researching this topic and find it to be a possible topic for my next paper.
Thanks for tuning in!

Are we Together or Alone?
Hello All!
Going off of the video from Turkle from the show "Ted", she brings up a good point that technology causes us to be together, but in reality we really are alone. We may be sitting together, in each others presence, but in reality, we are really alone because of the fact that we direct our attention to our electronic devices. Technology has given us the ability to take control of what we are doing in real time. Some may say that they are together when it comes to hanging out or sitting through a meeting. But if you think about it, we end up going straight to our phones and listen to only what we want to hear and what we think is important. Technology has become such a huge part of our lives that Turkle believes that it will replace human physical contact with a robot like figure to give us the contact and attention that we want.
After watching this video, I have a feeling that what she is saying is true. I've never really noticed as to how easily distracted we get when it comes to having our phone at hand. Sometimes I don't even notice that I'll take my phone out and just turn it on to see if I have a new notification or to see what the time is, but it's at a constant rate! I acknowledge the fact that technology can be a huge part of our lives, but every now and then I decide to hide my phone from myself just so I can pay attention to my loved ones and friends that much more closely. After seeing Turkle and acknowledging as to what she said, it makes me that much more attentive to put the electronics away and to actually talk to those around me, instead of plugging myself into my headphones and getting lost in my own world.
Thanks for tuning in!

Hayao Miyazaki
Hello all!
This blog post is about the famous author, director and producer named Hayao Miyazaki. Some of you may or may not know him but he is famous for many films such as "My neighbor Totoro", "Princess Mononoke" and "Ponyo". Many have been produced along side with Disney, which is a reason why some of his work is very well known.
The reason why I am choosing to blog about him is because I've recently watched a huge marathon regarding his movies. They're about 2- 3 hours long, I've watched about only a third of his total twenty six movies and short films this past weekend, and they do bring a nostalgic feel. My favorite movies that I've seen are the same that are listed above. They bring out the traditional feel of Japanese anime, but in turn, expands the mind of the beholder and the creator.
Hayao Miyazaki is a major influence in the Japanese entertainment world. He's brought about so many different perspectives regarding tradition, religion and imagination, that he's become such a huge influence to myself and many others that I know.
If interested or possible, take a step into watching something new and possibly breathe taking, as Hayao Miyazaki unravels the extent of your imagination.

Fresh Off the Boat
Hello All!
There has been a television show that has recently been aired on ABC, and its called "Fresh Off the Boat".
Fresh Off the Boat is a comedy series starring Randall Park, Constance Wu, Ian Chen, Hudson Yang, and Forrest Wheeler[4][5][6] that is inspired by the life of chef and food personality Eddie Huang and his book Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir.
The story follows the course of Eddie Huang's Taiwanese family as they make their way from Washington, D.C. to Orlando, Florida to open up a steak restaurant during the mid-to-late 1990s (with the first season being set between 1995 and 1997).[11][12] His mother struggles with culture clash of having to move from D.C. to Orlando,[13] his father embraces the "American Dream", and Eddie and his brothers struggle with assimilating into school.
I find that I can relate to this show because there are a lot of big and little things that I have experienced throughout my life as I grew up. Although they may bring up a lot of Asian stereotypes, they still keep it pg when it comes to bringing them out and keep it very funny.
Growing up, I was one of the only Asian kids in my elementary school, just like the main character. All of the hardships like the things I liked and the food I ate, they were all judged by my friends and family. Although I may have gone through all of the same hardships as the main character, they are what define us as Asian Americans. I won't spoil any more of the show but it brings out a lot of things that I can relate to and I enjoy seeing it from another point of view.
Thanks!

Lotuss Clothing Supply
Hello all!
I've got something new and different to share with everyone!
Very recently, I've started working with a clothing brand as a social media marketer. All I do is advertise clothing and accessories of the brand and just inform the general public about any of their special sale or new line of clothing that they're coming out with.
The reason why I wanted to start doing this is because I wanted to become a part of something big, something that was started from the ground up. It inspires me to keep my grind going, and to work hard for something as cool as this! I'm doing this out of my own choice, I don't get money or free gear but I do it because I love this brand!
The concept of lotuss is to inspire others to dream big by spreading an islander vibe through its clothing. Not only that, but it brings street wear up to a whole other level. If you guys are interested in purchasing or just taking a look at what we've got going on then go to

My Eulogy: Losing Someone You Love
Hello All
This post is somewhat a sad one...
February 13, 2015, I lost someone I cared very deeply about, my grandfather, my papa, my best friend and biggest influence and inspiration.
My papa was 87 years old when he passed, and the last I go to see him was over the summer of 2014. Growing up he was always there to take care of me, he was always the one to be there to pick me up everyday afterschool, to take me out whenever he felt like a pick me up, and to just always be there when I needed someone to comfort me.
When I was little, he would often travel from San Francisco to Fairfield to babysit my siblings and I throughout the week. Picking us up after school everyday, to making us every single meal and taking us out with him when he needed to run errands, I was always right there by his side. Whenever he went back to the city, he would often take me with him to spend time with my grandmother. Every weekend that I was with him, he would always ask, "Do you want to go shopping at Serramonte mall? or walk down Mission street?' And every time he would ask, I would give the same answer, "Yes papa! I would love too!" Although he may have spoiled me with many toys and clothes, I know that it was one of the ways he cared, and that he always wanted to make me happy.
Around the time I was 5, we moved out to the city called San Ramon, and brought my papa and grandma with us. They had their own condo down the street from us and it was so much easier to see them everyday. Up until the end of middle school, papa would always be there to pick us up. He was never late, but always early. He would never forget to pick us up, and everyday we would go back to his condo and he would ask "Are you hungry? Did you eat? Do you want steak or adobo?" It was the same thing everyday but it was always my favorite, that's what I liked about my papa, he never forgot about any of the stuff that we liked. Whether it was food, clothes, tv show, anything you could ask him, he would always have the correct answer to our favorite things.
Once I hit middle school, it was around the time I started taking the bus to papas condo everyday. he would always ask if I was ok, or if I was tired, how my day was and if I wanted to play a game of cards or watch tv with him. I'd tell him anything and everything because I knew it would always make his day when I told him how I was doing. Once I started track season, I began to see him less and less, but whenever I had a race or a fight for taekwondo, he would always be there in the stands cheering me on. No matter what I decided to do with life, he would always be there to cheer me on and I would always love to show off just for him.
Although I never got to see him much after my grandmother passed away, whenever I did get the chance to see him, I would always try to get the chance to make him smile or laugh. Whenever I was able to do that, it always made me want to cry knowing that I couldn't really do much for him in return when he needed me most. Every chance I got with my papa, I somehow always ended up crying. I always cried because I never got to give my papa all of the love and care that he gave me as I grew up as a kid. He was never good at telling me how he felt at times, but it was always possible to tell by the way he acted.
I'll never forget all of the days he would say I love you my child, the days he would give me long hugs before leaving, and kisses whenever he wanted. I'll never forget the days he would take care of me and the days I would in return do for him. The days I would make him proud of all of my achievements and the days I would always make him happy with all of the laughs and memories we made.
I'll always love you papa, I'm never going to forget all of the wonderful things we did together as I grew to become the young women I am today. I love you papa, I miss you.

Against Meat by Jonathan Safran Foer
Hello all!
Reading this short article by Foer made me realize how much I should value certain foods. Most people can't afford the food that all of us can eat on a daily basis. Not only that, but to value the health benefits that certain foods provide for us. The author often complimented his grandmother for her cooking and genuine values on how to view the world. It made me think and look back at to how useful her tips were and how outdated they have been these past five to six years. The way the author sets up the separate categories for what he is talking about helps a lot when organizing his thoughts and getting his certain points of view across to the audience. Many of the advice he is given regards mainly health and nutrition, and he connects a lot to his main family life. This is a great read from the new York times that I highly recommend. It's a short story about a young boy and his life regarding health and nutrition from his grandmother.
Thanks for your time everyone!

They say, I say Ch.13
Hello All! I've recently read a short chapter on how technology may or may not be helping us as readers and writers. Here are my thoughts and opinions based upon this argument. Enjoy!
Within this chapter, we are informed that some researches believe that all of the technology we use is somewhat destroying our ability to think. Others have argued that it actually stretches our mind and bring everyone closer together. Many of these debates in fact happen through technology itself!
I believe that technology has helped our society in so many ways. It's helped develop our research, our daily lives and so much more that it's been able to change lives and help us understand that there's more to life than what we see everyday. In regards to writing, it has not damaged or revolutionized either side of the argument. Many of sources of social media have actually helped us get our own opinions out to the world, and actually help writers themselves view what others may or may not think about their work. Technology has really helped me get into more conversations with people from all around the world, and it has tremendously improved my reading and writing. I've been able to carry out longer conversations at times an have been able to speak in a well mannered tone note only but in person as well, just by looking up other examples online. I also think that technology ahs helped myself improve personal goals, such as being able to voice my opinion either anonymously or labeled by my name. I'm able to help identify problems I may come across, or help those in need of assistance. Overall, I think technology has helped in so many ways not only as a reader and writer, but as a human being as well.
What are your thoughts on technology?
Thanks for taking the time to look into my thoughts! Feel free to comment your own opinions as well, I'd love to read them!

Do You Know Your ABC's?
Hello All!
I recently found this video on Facebook and thought it was very inspiring. It made me feel more determined to work harder in school and to keep my faith in God and those around me. Seeing a speech like this to a graduating class was really cool and I wish I was able to experience it. I was able to really know my ABC's once watching it, I hope you enjoy it because I know I did!
Thanks! -Brandy :)

What's My Writing Process?
Hello All!
Have you ever been in a class, and a professor or teacher has the audacity to assign you a huge essay or report that's only due in either a couple of days or in a few weeks? And after looking at what the prompt is about, and how all of the formatting should be, you understand what your goal for the paper, right?
Taking a step back, and looking at how we all work, we can see that everyone has their own way of writing their own paper or essay, how they decide to manage their time, and how much effort the feel like putting into their essay. Some will write their rough drafts over and over again while editing and revising each and every little detail; others will write one basic paper and think that it's good enough to turn in; and there's always those who decide to work on their assignments a few days or even the night before it's due.
If I take a break and look at how I see myself during my own writing process, I can see that I am a mix of everyone that was described above. Once assigned a topic, I tend to procrastinate, and have the tendency to start the assignment about a couple days before it's due. But once I start writing, there's no stopping me! I usually write everything I have going on in my brain at once, hen completed, I end the first draft to a friend and ask what their opinions are based upon what they think about my paper. After receiving their comments, I write another draft and have them re-read it. Once I get the final revisions done, I check for any last minute mistakes and go ahead and wrap up my paper. It may not be a long and complicated, or a short and simple process, but it works for me!
Thanks for taking the time to hear my story! :)

Hello All!
My name is Brandy and I've created this blog for my English 5 class at Sac State.
I'm a first year and I enjoy working out, hanging with friends and loved ones, and I just love doing anything new and fun!
This blog will contain a lot about my class and help me voice my opinions and thoughts about the course, along with all of the work involved.
I hope you all enjoy or at least take the time to read my blogs. It'd mean a lot!
Thanks :)
